Complements On-the-go beauty: Four travel tips to keep your skin glowing

12/21/16

This time of year, many of us are flying south to get away from the cold, or even going to visit friends and family over the holidays. Either way, travel can be rough on your skin. With a little planning, however, your skin can look and feel its best during your travels.

You can never have enough moisturizer. If flying, dry air in the plane can be harsh on your skin. Pack a few essentials in your carry-on or purse so you can easily reapply them during the flight. I recommend packing a facial moisturizer, a lip balm and an eye cream.

Drink lots of water. Keep your skin hydrated on and off the plane once you reach your destination. Your skin becomes dull and fine lines will appear more prominent when you do not drink enough water. A good rule of thumb is to try and drink half your body weight in ounces each day.

Don’t forget your sunscreen. It seems silly that we should be concerned about the sun’s rays while sitting on a plane, but we are close to the sun and the windows do not filter out the damaging UV rays. I recommend a product that contains, at a minimum, SPF 15. Don’t forget to reapply if your flight is longer than two hours.

Pack your own products. It’s okay to ditch those “extras,” but be sure to pack your own cleanser and moisturizer. Most products are available in sample or travel sizes, but you can also buy your own travel size containers and fill them up. Stay clear of the freebies offered in the hotels. They tend to be too drying and end up irritating your skin.
