A question I get asked often is what to do about dark under-eye circles? Let’s first look at what can be creating those lovely tired eyes staring back at you.

  1. Genetics - Some people just have dark under-eye circles because of their heredity or because they have fair or thin skin, which causes the blue and red capillaries to show through easier.
  2. Lack of sleep - This causes slower circulation with the capillaries and again shows through the skin easier.
  3. Allergies - Because of allergies, the blood vessels can become inflamed, again allowing them to become more visible and cause puffiness.
  4. Age - With age, the skin begins to thin, and collagen loses elasticity.

So, how do you get rid of the dark circle look? You can double up on a pillow at night to keep blood from flowing below your eyes and building up in one place. Use a cold compress in the morning to constrict the blood vessels. Get a good eye cream and concealer. Our office carries a cream and concealer duo that uses key ingredients (green tea extract and vitamin C) as well as others that deliver visible results within four to eight weeks. The product, Teamine Eye Complex, provides three primary benefits: visibly diminishing the dark under-eye circles, reducing puffiness and smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.

Dark circles are not a serious skin problem, but they can make people look exhausted, unhealthy and older. Regardless of why the dark circles are appearing, there are plenty of ways to eliminate them.
