Complements New Year resolutions for your skin

01/30/18

Happy New Year! This is the time of the year where many people are making their New Year’s resolutions, but very few include taking better care of your skin. What if this year you simply devoted the year to loving yourself more? What if you took care of you? Here are a few skin care resolutions for you to consider:

I will wear sunscreen every single day. And yes, even on cloudy days. Using an SPF year round is essentially the best thing you can do for your skin. It should be the last step in your skin care regimen in the morning every single day.

I will avoid picking at my skin. It’s tempting, I know, but did you know you’re actually making things worse? Picking your face creates spread of bacteria and that creates more breakouts and can cause scarring. Try using a spot acne gel or cream instead.

I will remove my makeup every single night. Makeup can trap dirt and oil that can cause breakouts. Trapped oil can make pores appear larger. Take a few minutes and give your skin a good cleanse before going to bed.

I will exfoliate 2-3 times a week. This is key for healthy skin. Because exfoliation sloughs dead skin cells off, it regenerates and allows the healthy skin to come through.

I will drink more water. Aim to drink half your body weight in ounces of water each day. Hydration is essential for our bodies to function properly, but also is very important for skin health. When we are dehydrated, our skin shows and wrinkles are more prominent.

I will get a good night’s sleep. Sleep plays an important role in physical health. Your body is boosting blood flow to the skin, which allows you to wake up with a healthy glow. Aim for 8 hours of sleep to regenerate your skin.

Create a routine and stick with it. Stick with a regimen for morning and night and give it time. Stop switching around to a million different products. It takes time, typically three months for a product to take full effect and your skin to adjust to it.

This year, invest in your skin and make effort. Your skin will thank you! If you aren’t sure how to begin a skin care routine, or need help creating a regimen that works best for your skin, schedule a consultation with me at 814.231.7878.
