Complements How to care for your skin in your 30s

Following up from my article about skin care in your 20s a few months back, let’s move on to skin care in your 30s. In your 30s, you may start to notice additional signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and acne which is likely hormonal. I recommend keeping to your basic routine, but adding a few additional products.

First off, you should continue exfoliating two to three times a week. As we age, our cells do not turnover as fast. Look for products with glycolic acids, lactic acids and salicylic acids to exfoliate and promote an even skin tone. And of course, make sure you are still using a daily sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or more.

Adding any antioxidant product will help by reducing free radicals. My favorite add-on products are eye cream, vitamin C and retinol products. If you are experiencing acne breakouts, treat the acne spot rather than the whole face so you are not drying out the skin. Drying out the skin makes fine lines and wrinkles appear more.

Now is also the time to consider a professional microdermabrasion and/or chemical peel to turn the cells over and encourage new collagen and elastin. I recommend scheduling treatments three to four times a year.

Mount Nittany Physician Group Reconstructive & Cosmetic Surgery offers a wide range of professional skin care products that I can help customize to your skin type.
