Complements What is dermaplaning?

Most women have never heard of dermaplaning nor have had the service performed. So what is it? Dermaplaning is a simple and safe procedure that rids the skin of fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) and exfoliates the epidermis, or outer layer of the skin.

This is a quick, painless procedure in which a scalpel is used to delicately remove the fine hair on the face and dead skin. Many women are concerned about their hair growing back heavier, coarser or darker. Total myth! The hair will grow back at the same rate and texture it did before.

Fine hair is hard to remove with waxing. Dermaplaning can take care of all the little fine hairs with no downtime. A benefit to dermaplaning is that the skin actually feels and looks smoother by removing the hairs.

Dermaplaning is offered before a microdermabrasion and/or chemical peel. Removing the dead skin allows products to penetrate deeper and prepare the skin for a treatment.

I would not recommend trying dermaplaning by yourself at home. A procedure this precise is definitely best left to the professionals. A smoother face, a youthful glow – sounds like a winner to me! If you are interested in learning more about dermaplaning, contact our office at 814.231.7878.
