There’s a new trend regarding the 5:2 diet, and it has nothing to do with eating. Apparently, there’s a new skin diet that gets its name from the popular 5:2 weight loss diet. The idea is to wear makeup for five on, then two consecutive days off.

I get the idea of having a fresh pure face for two days, but the claims behind it don’t add up. Not wearing makeup for two days isn’t going to give you gorgeous skin. The cell turnover process is a few weeks, not two days. That being said, I do see the benefit from taking a makeup-free break. Your skin will actually rebalance its own moisture by pushing out any chemicals that have accumulated on your skin over time.

Here’s what you really need to take away from this diet: wear your sunscreen every day and wash your face. The horrible habit that so many women have is sleeping with their makeup on, stop this! Cleanse your face and remove your makeup daily. Sleeping is when your skin regenerates and rebuilds. You aren't doing yourself any favors by clogging up your pores, rather, you are preventing the skin from breathing and repairing overnight. A 5:2 skin diet isn't going to be enough to save you.

There are always benefits to going without makeup and there’s absolutely no harm in trying out the 5:2 skin diet. This however isn’t a foolproof strategy for attaining gorgeous skin.

Maintaining your skin daily will provide better long term results than the 5:2 diet.
